Recently, an open dialogue was held in Uzbekistan, which was dedicated to the implementation of the decree “On measures for the further development of horticulture and greenhouse farming in the Republic of Uzbekistan”.
According to industry experts who participated in the dialogue, for the first half of 2019, tons of vegetables and fruits, having earned more than $ 700 million for them.
Judging by the words of the director of the Agency for the Development of Horticulture and Greenhouse Management Nasriddin Najimov, now the world market is keenly interested in such goods as plums, apricots and cherries.
According to information on July 1, 2019, Uzbek producers shipped 50 thousand tons of apricots, 17 thousand tons of sweet cherries, 15 thousand tons of plums and 8.3 thousand tons of peaches to the foreign market. The areas allocated for gardens in Uzbekistan are 269.5 thousand hectares. Of this amount, 118 thousand ha or 44% are apple orchards.
During the meeting, the question was raised about the presence in the republic of genetically modified products and the cultivation of plants by local farmers, modified by genetic engineering.
As Yuldash Saimnazarov said at a press conference, there are no GMOs in fruits on the territory of Uzbekistan, but they may be contained in vegetables. Nasriddin Najimov said that Uzbekistan controls the use of seeds and seedlings with GMOs, and also improves legislation in this regard.
