Producers of berries in the Vinnitsa region drew attention to the cultivation of honeysuckle - bush berries, which are very popular in Canada, appear on the market earlier than others and are considered more valuable than blueberries.
One of those who grow it is Oleg Vagin, the owner of the nursery in Mikulintsy of the Litinsky district. His farm grows seedlings of dozens of crops, including blueberries, blackberries, cranberries, currants, etc.
According to the farmer, many Vinnitsa gardeners have long known what honeysuckle is, and are trying to grow it. But statistics show that about 60% of potential buyers have never tried it. The reason is the lack of industrial plantations of this berry in the Vinnitsa region.
“I only heard about one, but there are old varieties that will be delicious to those who prefer a sweet and sour taste to a purely sweet one, bitterness is also present there. But now new Canadian and Bakhchar varieties of Russian selection with sweet and large berries are being bred, ”says Oleg Vagin. - They perfectly take root there, but in Ukraine, where it is warmer, growth is inhibited by the heat.
The plant is lignified, and it needs to be fed. In early spring, ammonium sulfate or urea is used on thawed snow, depending on the acidity of the soil. Winter honeysuckle tolerates very well, so no need to cover.
Even rooted cuttings are left on the street. It does not bear fruit immediately; you need to wait several years. Harvested in early May and until the end of June. The berries are light and easy to damage. Because of this, they are often processed abroad for jams and additives to yoghurts. ”
