According to data from farmers from different regions of Ukraine, sowing and planting onions took place under favorable weather conditions, friendly shoots were obtained.
Farmers expect a good crop, the head of the department for crop production, seed production, gardening and viticulture of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy Leonid Sukhomlyn said in a statement.
Every day, the country's markets receive onions from the 2019 harvest of local and foreign production. In early or mid-June, the price of it should be reduced significantly, a spokesman for the ministry said.According to Leonid Sukhomlyn, high prices for onions are explained by 2 factors. Firstly, 2018 turned out to be barren for culture due to weather nuances. The drought, which was observed at the beginning of last spring, led to a decrease in the cultivated area of the crop by 2.3 thousand hectares.
Secondly, during the harvest, the weather again prevented the onion. This time it rained heavily and for a long time. Due to excess moisture, the onion began to rot on the field. All this led to a 10% reduction in onion production compared to 2017.The most noticeably reduced production of agricultural producers. They collected 41 thousand tons less than the crop or 35% compared to 2017.
