On the territory of South Korea, a source of infection of the local swine population with the African plague virus was recorded.
Such information was shared by representatives of the public relations department of the Ministry of Food, Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of the Republic of Korea.
The department also emphasized that the outbreak of the virus arose in the open spaces of one of the pig farms, which is located in the city of Paju (near the border with the People’s Republic of China).
Five pigs died as a result of the infection. And now four thousand animals will be immediately removed and destroyed from the assets of three local farms.
In addition, the Ministry of Food, Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of the Republic of Korea emphasizes that a quarantine regime has been introduced in potentially vulnerable areas of South Korea to move pigs and slaughter local pigs.
It will not be superfluous to note that about four months ago, the North Korean government informed the staff of the World Organization for Animal Health about the infection of pigs with the African plague virus. Now the disease has reached the limits of South Korea.
