Experts predict an inevitable decline in the cost of early vegetables due to an increase in the number of locally grown products on the market.

But in the future, the inhabitants of Ukraine will again face an abnormal change in food prices, participants in the Economic Discussion Club noted. According to Oleg Pendzin, Executive Director, our realities in this sense have no analogues in the world.

In Ukraine, the difference between prices in summer, autumn, winter and spring is 2-2.5 times, which is not found in any other state. The difference in seasonal fluctuations in vegetable prices in European countries is 1.5%, at most - 2%. But in Ukraine it is 200-210%, says the specialist.

The expert believes that this state of affairs is due to the lack of facilities for long-term storage of vegetables, properly equipped. Seasonal fairs with cheap products cannot solve the problem of monopolizing the market.

They are held in large settlements on the initiative of local authorities, but still do not save from higher prices. Ukrainian markets continue to suffer from monopolies. Leading retail chains talk about price levels. To bring the Ukrainian market closer to the level of Europe, many more robots have to be done, he notes.

Recall that this year, Ukrainians were surprised at the cost of onions and cabbage in the 2018 harvest. Due to the crop failure and cutting of the cultivated areas of these crops, their prices were several times higher than last year.
