Usually in Ukraine, meat rises in price a little before Easter, and then a gradual normalization of prices occurs, but this year should not be expected.
Due to the rise in price of pork in the world market, Ukraine will also see an increase in meat prices, said an analyst with agricultural markets and a national consultant to the UN Food and Agriculture Organization Andrei Pankratov.
At the moment, Ukraine is pretty much dependent on world meat prices, as the number of pigs in the country is declining, and imports are growing. At the same time, due to problems in Chinese pig farming, the demand for this type of meat is constantly growing, which leads to a significant increase in prices. In previous weeks, a price increase has already taken place, to which the Ukrainian market is now adapting. There may be some rollback. But in the longer term, further increases in prices are likely if pork continues to rise in price on the world market.
Most likely this will happen. Due to the lack of pork in the country, Ukraine is forced to buy it at world market prices, and they are now high. The main reason for the increase in meat prices is an increase in the supply of pork to China.Any changes in the activity of this country in the world market lead to significant price fluctuations: a few percent of Chinese imports of pork meat are already tens of thousands of tons of product. Recall that due to ASF, China has lost more than 1 million pigs, says Andrei Pankratov.
