Authorized employees of the General Directorate of Rosselkhoznadzor in the Kaluga Region thwarted an attempt by Turkish suppliers to import potentially dangerous goods into the Russian Federation.
We are talking about a large batch (18 tons) of fresh strawberries grown in Turkish fields. During the inspection of the cargo, officials of the supervisory department suspected that berries from Turkey, which were entering the markets of Nizhny Novgorod, could be infected with a dangerous pest.
Initial analysis showed that strawberries are really struck by individuals of Western flower thrips, which is notorious throughout the world among farmers and is one of the most dangerous plant pests. It is noteworthy that in December 2007 on the territory of the Russian Federation came into force on the approval of the list of quarantine objects, on the basis of which, employees of the Russian Ministry of Agriculture could include Western flower thrips in the category "Quarantine objects that are limited in the territory of the Russian Federation."
The presence in the Turkish party of strawberries of a dangerous pest gave the Rosselkhoznadzor employees the right to prevent the goods from entering the territory of the Russian Federation and to stop the spread of the dangerous threat on the country's fields.
