In the southern territories of Ukraine, a special climatic zone has been outlined that allows farmers to grow rice and cotton. According to experts, the total number of active temperatures above 10 ° C during the growing season exceeds 3,700 ° C.

“In other words, this Ukraine has reached the upper limit of the temperature suitable for growing subtropical vegetation,” experts at the Ukrhydrometcenter agrometeorology department explain. According to them, earlier farmers in Ukraine have repeatedly made attempts to grow cotton. Not so much on an industrial scale, but for the sake of interest, so to speak, “for oneself”. However, in most cases, these attempts were unsuccessful - the cotton simply did not have time to ripen, since it was destroyed by low temperatures. Now, experts are sure, it is quite possible to grow cotton in the southern territories of the country.

“Before, sunflowers could only be grown in the southern and eastern regions,” agrometeorologists say. - And today there are no territorial restrictions in Ukraine for the cultivation of this crop - there is enough heat both in the north and in the west. Perhaps this will be the case with cotton and rice. ”
