Strong winds that struck Valencia in recent days have caused significant damage to citrus and persimmon plantations.
The damage, which is of great economic importance, was caused mainly by the phenomenon of “rameado” - blows and cuts caused to the fetus from the movement of branches, as well as breakage of branches, falling fruit, etc.
According to the first estimates made by this organization, the loss of citrus fruits is more than 43 million euros, while in the case of persimmons they exceed 15 million. To all this are added damage to the infrastructure.
Citrus fruits were initially not as sweet as they are now. They used to be bitter and inedible.
Greenhouses, agricultural warehouses and nets were destroyed to protect horticultural crops that were displaced and even broken by the wind.
Although you have to wait a few days to more accurately determine the extent of the damage, “it’s very important now that Agroseguro prepare the damage reports as soon as possible, since we are at the peak of the harvesting campaign,” says AVA-ASAJA President Cristobal Aguado, who also calls on the administration to increase budget allocated to agricultural insurance items.
Similarly, from AVA-ASAJA, the importance of hiring insurance in this type of climate adversity is recalled, as farmers who have not entered into a contract will have to bear losses.
- French farmers paralyzed traffic in Paris.
- We previously reported that Fukushima farmers will treat the local persimmon to the Pope.
- German farmers go bankrupt due to an abnormally hot summer.
- We also wrote that the Kenyan government gives farmers free seedlings.
- Ukrainian farmers got acquainted with the cultivation of paulownia and snails.
