After the hot and dry summers of 2018 and 2019 in Germany, which were too hot for agriculture, the current dry season once again affects the work of farmers.
Experts from different regions report the first problems due to lack of precipitation.
To go fishing in Germany, special courses should be completed where they will be taught, among other things, how to handle the fish so that it does not experience torment.
Germany is coping well with the pandemic crisis and its aftermath, but high-pressure weather conditions are causing farmers to worry. Despite the fact that this is important for the upcoming field work, the sowing of corn is going very well and on time. But soil moisture drops sharply, especially on light soils.
“The focus is on the further development of rapeseed”, Emphasizes Agravis Agricultural Product Expert Bernhard Chilla. The first frost damage was recorded in place in late March and early April. Rapeseed is now entering its most important growth phase, and water demand is high. “Due to the falling moisture in the soil, young plants will need a lot of rainfall over the next two weeks, otherwise the prospects for the crop will drop significantly”- explains the expert. Rape growth conditions are said to have not only worsened in Germany, but neighboring countries France and England also report weaker rapeseed reserves. Thus, as of mid-April, the rapeseed harvest in the EU from good to very good, as in the previous year, is not to be expected.
The current weather situation does not currently have such an effect on wheat and winter barley. "Stocks of wheat and winter barley have been very good since winter."Chilla explains and adds: “If weather conditions are constantly dry, growth conditions may worsen here, too.”.
- Only now the consequences of the past hot summer in Germany are felt. Lower incomes and higher costs due to high heat are the main reasons for the growth of bankruptcy among German farmers.
- Operational support services in Westphalia-Lippe want to decide on a case-by-case basis whether the Operations Assistant arrives at the farm in case of virus detection. It is still unknown whether there are any suspected cases on farms in Westphalia-Lipp. But according to experts, the virus will not ignore the villagers.
- Harvest assistants will soon be able to return to Germany. Julia Kleckner, Federal Minister of Food and Agriculture, and Horst Seehofer, Federal Minister of the Interior, today introduced a general concept that provides for the exclusion of existing restrictions on the entry of seasonal workers.
